Consider the birds
As we draw ever closer to leaving Florida for Honduras, our conversations invariably turn to “how are we going to pay for that?” We know that “God’s got this!”. This has been something that we’ve said back and forth to each other almost daily. This morning was no exception.
One of the things that we love to do in the morning is to sit on our front porch, drink coffee, pray, and do a daily devotion. We also love to watch the birds that show up for breakfast. We have cardinals, blue jays, red-headed woodpeckers, doves and assorted finches. Every morning. This morning, I heard God say “look at them”. I knew that what He was really doing was quoting Matthew 6:26:
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26 (NIV)
So, I got my camera, shot a couple of pictures, and considered the birds. They aren’t worried about their next meal. That doesn’t mean that they sit around and wait for the provision to come to them. They work very hard to identify and gather what has already been supplied for them.
God, teach me to identify and gather what you have for me. Forgive me for not trusting you and for looking for your provision in all of the wrong places.
